South's Waldron, North's Baird earn all-state honors

WHEATON – Meghan Waldron was selected to the Associated Press Class 4A all-state first team last week.

The Wheaton Warrenville South senior was joined by Khaalia Hillsman of Young, Jackie Kemph of Rolling Meadows, Kortney Dunbar of Edwardsville and Haley Gorecki of Fremd on the first team.

Waldron produced big numbers across the board this winter and became the Tigers' all-time leading scorer and rebounder.

Wheaton North's Chrissy Baird, who also became her program's all-time leading scorer and rebounder this season, was picked for the all-state second team. Baird totaled 15.1 points and 9.7 rebounds per game while also adding 47 steals and 48 blocked shots.

Other area players who also earned all-state recognition were Aysia Bugg of Bolingbrook (Class 4A second team), Hinsdale Central's Gabrielle Rush (Class 4A honorable mention) and Montini's Kateri Stone (Class 3A first team).
