Downers Grove police to increase DUI enforcement over St. Patty's Day

DOWNERS GROVE – The Downers Grove Police Department will step up DUI and seatbelt enforcement around the St. Patrick's Day Holiday thanks to an IDOT grant.

It's part of a year-long initiative that focuses on impaired driving and seat belt enforcement on specific holidays, according to a press release from police.

It's funded by a $21,000 grant from IDOT.

As part of the St. Patrick's Day holiday emphasis, officers will be working saturation patrols that target impaired drivers and seat belt violations.

Police reminded revelers to prevent impaired friends from getting behind the wheel.

Police also reminded those celebrating the holiday to plan a safe way home as part of the party plans; to call a taxi, sober friend, family member, or use public transportation to ensure safe trip.

Police also asked residents to call 911 if they see an impaired driver on the road.
