CICERO – The Literacy Luau at Lincoln School in Cicero will bring together students, parents and community members with children’s authors, musicians and volunteer readers to celebrate a shared experience around literacy March 19.

The Literacy Luau is part of the Cicero Public School District 99 School Improvement Plan to ensure students, parents and the community are involved in literacy and education, according to district officials.

Among those participating are Author Marianne Malone; author/illustrator Kevin Luthart; poet Julio Montenagra; storytellers Jasmine Cardernas, Marie Ringenberg and Lynn Allen; illustrator Kathy O’Malley; student authors Akili Rapheal and Harriet Lewis; creative team Kim Krueger and Dino Crintani; Storybus; and multilingual storytellers Sadarri & Company.

Guest readers from the community will also visit children in their classrooms to share their favorite books, and dramatists will entertain youngsters by expressing themselves through story and movement.

The all-day program features reading, writing and ways to foster self-expression with performances, workshops and presentations to actively engage Cicero school children in the creative process.

Parents will be invited to attend specific events with their children.
