FRANKLIN PARK - West Chicago pushed Glenbard North to the brink of elimination Tuesday night but the fifth-seeded Panthers knocked down big shots late in a 51-48 win in a Class 4A Leyden regional semifinal.

With the victory, the Panthers advance to Friday's 7 p.m. regional final against Lake Park, which upset No. 3-seed Oak Park. Glenbard North beat the Lancers twice during the regular season in DVC play.

Glenbard North almost didn't reach the final as the Wildcats jumped out to an 11-0 lead and carried a 27-19 edge into halftime. The Panthers sliced the deficit in half at the end of three quarters and took their first lead at the 4:34 mark of the fourth quarter on a three-pointer by Kendall Holbert.

But West Chicago wouldn't go away, retying the score at 44-apiece on a trifecta by Mikey Bibbs with 1:40 left on the clock. Jeremiah Fleming answered with a three-pointer 15 seconds later, giving Glenbard North the lead for good. Fleming then hit three free throws in the final minute to hold off the Wildcats.

Fleming, Holbert and Chip Flanigan finished with 13 points apiece. The Wildcats' John Konchar led all scorers with 22 points and Bibbs added 18.
