LA GRANGE – Hitting its seven-year mark, the annual Just Irish Enough fundraiser for the St. Baldrick’s Foundation is scheduled to return to the La Grange area this weekend.
A two-part celebration was planned to start Friday night and continue with the fundraiser’s traditional neighborhood block party in La Grange Park on Saturday, but organizers canceled the Saturday parade and party because of weather.
Friday night festivities are still on and will begin at 6:30 p.m. with a head shaving event at the MAX, 4750 S. Vernon Ave. in McCook. The family friendly event will include inflatables for kids and a DJ along with snacks and beverages for purchase.
During the head shaving portion, which had more than 200 participants’ heads shaved last year, pony tails also will be collected and donated to the Children With Hair Loss program.
Just Irish Enough, started by two La Grange Park residents in 2008, raised more than $350,000 in the past six years for the St. Baldrick’s Foundation, an organization which funds research for children with cancer.
For the past five years, organizers speculate more than 700 heads were shaved to raise money for the event’s cause.
