Timothy Christian’s boys basketball team is still alive in the postseason after winning two Class 3A regional games this week.
Timothy defeated Instituto Health Science Charter 67-21 in a regional quarterfinal Monday.
Joe Davidson had a double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds and Riley Chapman added 13 points in that win.
Connor VanderBrug was used sparingly, scoring only nine points after having gone for more than 30 points in each of the previous four games.
Timothy advanced to the regional final after beating Clemente 53-41 Wednesday. VanderBrug had 21 points and seven rebounds, and sophomore Ben Lodewyk scored 17 points.
Next up is a regional final game against regional host St. Joseph at 7 p.m. today. The Chargers are the No. 2 seed in the sectional while Timothy enters as the No. 10 seed. The Trojans last won a regional in 2010 when they were in Class 2A.
Freshman Peter Barabolak was the Dukes’ lone representative at the state meet. He placed 35th in diving during Friday’s preliminaries. He earned a score of 147.65.
