DOWNERS GROVE – A Downers Grove man was charged with reckless discharge of a firearm Sunday night after allegedly shooting a light pole.

Police responded to the 2800 block of Gabriella Street at 10:17 p.m. Sunday after receiving a call for shots fired. Several neighbors said they heard gun shots and directed police to the apartment building on the block, according to the Downers Grove Police Department.

Police noted an apparent bullet hole in a light pole directly across form where neighbors has pointed. Police knocked on the suspect's door and were allegedly confronted by Rodney L. Nars, 65, holding a Glock pistol, according to police.

After several minutes police were able to get Nars to exit his apartment without the gun. He and an un-named female in the apartment were both taken into custody, police said.

Nars, 2835 Gabriella St., Downers Grove, was charged with reckless discharge of a firearm.

The unnamed female told police they had been drinking whisky, according to police but the police report did not provide further information about the alleged firearm discharge.
