Cub Scouts from Downers Grove are interviewed by reporter Mary Beth Versaci during their visit to the Suburban Life Media newsroom in Downers Grove Friday.

DOWNERS GROVE – Members of Cub Scout Troop 89 from St. Mary of Gostyn School in Downers Grove visited the Suburban Life Media newsroom on Friday.

Sam Panatera, 8, and Joshua Palasz, 8, learned about the role of reporters, editors, photographers and designers in a newsroom.

The field trip will help the Cub Scouts earn their badge for communication.

Both boys said their favorite part of being a Cub Scout is the pinewood derby, and they've both seen success at these car races.

Joshua has earned two third-place medals, while Sam has won first- and second-place medals.
