Though the season ended in the game, Jaida Green had a solid performance for Downers Grove North's girls basketball team in a sectional semifinal game.
Downers Grove North
Why Green was selected:
Green was 4-of-6 on 3-pointers and scored 14 points in the first half of a Feb. 25 sectional playoff game against Batavia.
Sometimes it takes a while for basketball players to get into a shooting rhythm, but not Jaida Green. In a sectional playoff game against Batavia, Green had a hot start as she made 5-of-9 shots in the first half, including 4-of-6 from long range, to help the Trojans get out to an early lead. She finished with 17 points in North’s first appearance in the sectional round of the playoff since 1995-96. Green, the Sears Hardware and Appliance Athlete of the Week, spoke with Suburban Life sports editor Jason Rossi about the hot start and the Trojans’ season, which ended with a 57-52 loss against the Bulldogs.
What was it like for you in the first quarter?
There was definitely a lot of energy. There was tons of people and it was just a lot of fun. I was glad my shot was falling. There was just a lot of adrenaline, and I think that was what was making us go hard and helping the shots go in.
What’s the key to having a hot start like that?
I just tried to come in with a lot of confidence. I had a few rough shooting games before, so just making sure I had confidence in myself was really the key to knocking down the shots.
How do you sum up the team’s season?
This was probably the best season, the best team, I’ve had playing basketball. We had so much heart, we are such close friends, it was just a lot of fun. It was a fun group of girls, and winning was just a bonus.
