Prep roundup: East boys win first DVC game

Glenbard East

The Rams finally got a DuPage Valley Conference win on Wednesday. East defeated Wheaton Warrenville South 45-41 in Wheaton to finish the DVC 1-13. The Rams shared last place in the league with the Tigers. Last weekend the Rams had losses to Naperville North (53-32) and Lake Park (53-35).


After losing to Proviso East 72-46 on Feb. 21, the Warriors lost a West Suburban Conference crossover to Downers Grove North 60-47 on Wednesday.


The Broncos improved to 9-15 on the season with a 58-55 victory against Aurora Central Catholic. Matt Brachmann had 27 points and 11 rebounds while Kevin Brachmann had 10 points and eight rebounds.



Despite leading by just three at halftime, the Broncos pulled away for a 70-44 win against Nazareth in a Class 3A sectional semifinal Tuesday. Sara Ross led Montini with 13 points. Montini played Marshall Thursday in a sectional final at Glenbard South.


The Warriors came up short in a regional final on Feb. 20. Batavia ended Willowbrook's season with a 63-43 victory. Josie Zabran led the Warriors with 20 points and Molly Krawczykowski added 11 points and nine rebounds. The game was tied after a quarter and Willowbrook trailed by only five at halftime, but the Bulldogs pulled away in the second half. The Warriors were 23-5 this season.


Addison Trail

Bobby Carson went 2-2 at the Class 3A state tournament. He won his first match by fall at 285 pounds, but was defeated in the quarterfinals. The senior won one match in the wrestlebacks before losing 3-1 in a quarterfinal wrestleback. He was one win away from placing. Fellow senior Niko Rocha lost both of his matches at 170 pounds.


Addison Trail

Freshman Kennedy O'Neill was 27th on floor exercise and 34th on the uneven bars in her state debut Feb. 21. Junior Casey Boksha, also making her first state appearance, tied for 28th on floor.


Glenbard East

Karla Bowden was 80th and Hannah Mackie was 106th at the state tournament Feb. 21. Bowden averaged 191.3 pins per game.

Addison Trail

Megan Schmelter took 89th place at the state tourney on Feb. 21.


Addison Trail/Willowbrook co-op

The District 88 co-op team was 10th at the Downers Grove North sectional and failed to qualify any swimmers to state.
