LA GRANGE – In celebration of its 40th anniversary, DeVries Grocery and Market, 806 Arlington Ave., had a party for family, friends and community members Feb. 15.

The afternoon festivities included free hot dogs, anniversary cake and a raffle. Owner Wayne DeVries, said it was a great, yet bittersweet day.

“We work and it seems like the years fly by and we don’t realize it’s been 40 years,” DeVries said. “But it’s amazing, and we love coming to work everyday.”

DeVries said the party isn’t over and said the shop is planning to have vendors come in for free tastings along with more raffles.

After 40 years, DeVries said he’s still trying to follow his dad’s main rule – treating people how you’d want to be treated. A guideline, which he said, works well for the La Grange business.

“I couldn’t think of a better town to be in,” DeVries said. “We get tremendous support and response from the community and village.”
