MCCOOK – Aspiring female soccer players have a chance to earn a place in the top women's league in the United States.
The Chicago Red Stars of the National Women's Soccer League will host open team tryouts for the 2014 season starting at 10 a.m. on Feb. 27 at the Max McCook Athletic and Exposition Center, 4750 S. Vernon Ave. in McCook.
There will be two days of tryouts. On Feb. 27, there will be two open sessions from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 1:30 to 3 p.m. Potential players are expected to attend both sessions. The tryout session on Feb. 28 is invitation only and runs from 8 to 10 a.m.
All college senior and post-collegiate players interested in participating must first pay a registration fee of $100 (payment is accepted via credit card or check) before completing registration form and waiver at www.redstarsgear.com/tryouts.html. The Chicago Red Stars are one of nine teams in the NWSL and are led by head coach Rory Dames. The team boasts players from the U.S. and Canadian Women's National Teams, in addition to some of the top international players from around the world.
