Berwyn's Roosevelt Road will host a St. Patrick's Day celebration March 15 with the Green Mile Pub Crawl.

BERWYN – No cover charge? No need to drive? Is this Heaven? No, its the inaugural Green Mile Pub Crawl to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day on Berwyn’s Roosevelt Road “Veltway.”

From 5 to 11 p.m. March 14, revelers will be sham-rocking on Roosevelt Road, hitting all the pubs that are lit up in green for the one night of the year when it’s almost a sacrilege not to participate in at least one toast. Band of Brothers bagpipers will cruise all venues, and Irish fare, dancing and traditional folk music abound to get attendees into the spirit of the night.

Participating in the crawl are several establishments on Roosevelt Road. There is no cost to join the crawl and no cover charges at the venues. Free shuttle service will also be available between bars.

Starting from the West Side, the first stop is 12th Street Rag, 7023 Roosevelt Road, which is joining with Big Guys Sausage Stand, 7021 Roosevelt Road. Big Guys Irish fare will feature Irish coffee, bangers and corned beef.

Commodore Perry American Legion Post 256, 6919 Roosevelt Road, will be serving themed drinks for the night.

Nonna D’s, 6909 Roosevelt Road, has music and food planned, and Paparazzi, 6907 Roosevelt Road, will be featuring drinks and music as well.

Traditional Irish music can be heard at Wire, 6815 Roosevelt Road, from 6 to 9 p.m., while over at Friendly Tap, 6733 Roosevelt Road, the Krowka Joe Experience will play from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., followed by Dirty Green from 8:30 to 10:30 p.m. and Irish karaoke and drinks at 11 p.m.

Autre Monde Cafe & Spirits, 6727 Roosevelt Road, is teaming up with James Joyce Irish Pub from Windsor Avenue in a tent next to Autre Monde and will be serving lamb sandwiches, $1 oysters and Guinness. There will also be pipers from 5 to 5:30 p.m. and Irish dancers from 5:30 to 6 p.m. Out for Hours will perform from 6 to 8 p.m., followed by the Holy Hour House Band from 8 to 10 p.m. The pipers return from 10 to 10:30 p.m.

FitzGerald’s night club, 6615 Roosevelt Road, will be hosting a wedding in the main bar, but it’s Side Bar, with its entrance on the corner of the building, will be transformed into a genuine Irish pub serving corned beef from Big Guys. For those looking for something different, Capri is located next door.

Owner Bill FitzGerald said the crawl is a good way for business owners to usher in the weekend before the actual St. Pat’s holiday.

“We look forward to it [and] we’ve been doing our thing there for a long time,” FitzGerald said.

FitzGerald added he believed the event will be a boost to business in general that night.

FitzGerald’s will follow up with another St. Patrick’s Day bash on the actual day.

“I’ve always been a stickler on doing it on the day of the event,” he said.

This pub crawl is hosted by the Roosevelt Road Special Events Commission of the Berwyn Development Corp.
