FitzGerald's pulls out the hot sauce for jambalaya cook-off, Marcia Ball Band

BERWYN – FitzGerald’s continues to celebrate its 33rd anniversary this year by bringing two favorite artists back to Berwyn for consecutive nights of great music.

The Marcia Ball Band and C. J. Chenier and the Red Hot Louisiana Band will fire up the crowd for a March 3 Jambalaya Cook-off and give Fat Tuesday in Berwyn on March 4 a true Louisiana flavor.

FitzGerald’s celebrates Lundi Gras with their 20th annual Jambalaya Cook-off Grand Finale. The finale will feature a competition between 10 past champions to commemorate the final year for jambalaya competition – gumbo is on the menu for next year.

Free tastings will be offered from all entries. Both nights will feature beads, hurricanes, Abita beer and Louisiana cuisine by Tom “Festival” Cimms available for purchase.

Marcia Ball was FitzGerald's first national touring act back in 1981. Since then, she has returned year after year, bringing her brand of rollicking Gulf Coast R&B, soulful ballads and Texas stomp. Ball has been nominated for several Grammy Awards and has garnered scores of other awards during her career.

Clifton Chenier, who received a Lifetime Achievement Award at the recent Grammy Award ceremony, was a featured act at FitzGerald’s many times before his death in 1987. Since then, his son, C.J.Chenier, has carried on the tradition with the help of the Red Hot Louisiana Band. On Fat Tuesday, a large, framed photograph of Clifton Chenier taken by Chicago photographer Marc PoKempner during the Zydeco master’s first gig at Fitzgerald’s will be unveiled and will hang in the club permanently.

The evening opens with a set of traditional jazz by Roy Rubenstein’s Chicago Hot 6.
