Hinsdale Central student wins Young Artist auditions

Lucie Ticho, a sophomore at Hinsdale Central High School, took first place at the Dr. Robert Sanger Young Artists Auditions and will perform a concert with the Elmhurst Symphony Orchestra during the 2014-15 season.

A Hinsdale Central student has been crowned the winner of the Elmhurst Symphony Association Dr. Robert Sanger Young Artists Auditions.

The auditions were held Feb. 8 at Elmhurst Christian Reformed Church and showcased 16 high school musicians, many from the western suburbs, who play a variety of instruments.

Lucie Ticho, from Hinsdale Central High School, won first place for Shostakovich Cell Concerto No. 1, movements III and IV.

Serena Harnack, from St. Francis High School in Wheaton, took second with Tchaikovsky Violin Concerto in D Major, movement I.

Third place went to Daniel Kaler, from New Trier High School in Winnetka, for his performance of Dvorak Cello Concerto in b minor, movement I.

Steven Song, from Neuqua Valley High School in Naperville came in fourth for Dvorak Violin Concerto in a minor, movement I.

Ticho will perform with the Elmhurst Symphony Orchestra at a subscription concert for her first-place win. Other winners will perform for Kiwanis and other local groups in the next few months.
