Flanigan beats Naperville Central again, Glenbard North stays in first

CAROL STREAM - The first time that Glenbard North and Naperville Central met, Chip Flanigan's three-pointer at the buzzer was the difference.

This time around, a two-point basket did the same trick.

Flanigan's driving lay-up with 17 seconds left turned out to be the game-winner, giving the Panthers a 59-57 win over the Redhawks Friday night.

With the victory, Glenbard North improved to 10-2 in the DuPage Valley Conference and stayed in a first-place tie with West Aurora. Naperville Central fell to one game back.

The home team trailed by four points at halftime and at the end of the third quarter before a basket by Justin Jackson gave the Panthers a 55-54 lead with 1:40 left. Two free throws by Jeremiah Fleming upped the margin to three but the Redhawks answered with a three-point play with 23.6 seconds remaining.

That is when Fleming went to work, receiving a pass from Jackson at halfcourt and going in for a lay-up. Naperville Central had two final shots but a three-pointer and ensuing tip both missed.

Fleming finished with 22 points. Fleming added 13 points.
