Red hot Morton crushes Addison Trail
Mustangs make 16 3-pointers in blowout win
CICERO – If someone just watched Friday night's Morton-Addison Trail game they never would have guessed the Blazers won when the teams met in Addison.
The Mustangs came out fired up looking for revenge and put on an absolute show. Morton won 88-36 in front of a boisterous senior night crowd.
Morton (18-5, 10-2 West Suburban Gold) made 16 3-pointers with standout individual performances from Weisner Perez, who scored the Mustangs' first 14 points, and Luke Belcaster, who made four threes in a row in the first quarter and had six in the first half.
"I haven't been able to get off as many shots [this year on varsity]," Belcaster said. "It's been a lot harder, but today I got them off."
Perez finished with 23 points. Belcaster had 18. Jarvis Cannon added 11 points. 11 different Mustangs scored.
The highlight of the night may have come when Morton's Antonio Haley rose up to slam home an alley-oop thrown up by Mike Kadela.
The 61-59 loss to the Blazers on Jan. 24 ultimately cost Morton a share of the West Suburban Gold title. The Mustangs finished one game behind Proviso East in the Gold standings despite splitting the two regular season meetings with the Pirates.
Addison Trail (11-15, 6-5 WSG) was led by James Pupillo's 13 points. The Blazers host Hinsdale South Saturday.
