Woodridge asks community for help to deal with flooding

WOODRIDGE – With the recent rainfall and higher temperatures causing snow to melt, it is important for stormwater inlets to be clear of snow and ice, according to the Village of Woodridge.

Public Works crews have been clearing these inlets in preparation of the expected weather conditions, and continue to clear them to improve drainage conditions, the village said. Crews are also continually monitoring catch basins that build with snow and ice. Buried basins may create ponding water that may result in flooding and icy conditions.

To report problems with basins, contact Public Works at 630-719-4753.

With the rainfall and amount of snow that will be melting, a partnered approach will be the best way to address stormwater drainage during these weather conditions.

Homeowners are encouraged to take the following steps at home:

• Clear downspouts of any ice.

• Make sure sump pumps are free of ice and able to discharge without any restrictions/obstructions.

• Check the battery on back up sump pumps to make sure they are properly charged.

• Contacting Public Works at 630-719-4753 to report problems with basins.
