York girls basketball to play for regional title, IC girls win first regional since 2008

IC Catholic's boys basketball team, already the Suburban Christian Gold champs, fell 66-58 to Aurora Christian in a SCC crossover on Wednesday. IC takes on second place St. Edward Friday for a chance at an undefeated conference record.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Timothy Christian

Connor VanderBrug had another dominant performance in Tuesday's 62-45 win at Walther Christian with 37 points and 11 rebounds.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

York

The Dukes advanced to a regional final by defeating Proviso West 58-46 Wednesday. York hosts West Suburban Silver champion Downers Grove North on Friday. Alyssa Kovatchis came off the bench to score a career-high 29 points. Kovatchis was 12-for-12 from the free throw line.

IC Catholic

The Knights won a regional title for the first time since 2008 by defeating Westminster Christian 61-33 on Feb. 14. Rory Manion scored 19 points in the victory.

IC extended its playoff run with a 53-34 win against Christ the King Tuesday and plays a sectional final Thursday against Willows Academy.

Timothy Christian

After advancing from the regional quarterfinal via forfeit, the Trojans lost to Nazareth in a regional semifinal, 64-23.

GIRLS BOWLING

York

By taking third place at the Leyden sectional, the Dukes qualified for state as a team. Senior Lauren Tamm led the way with a 1,168 series. Jessica Jensen, Hannah Schwarz, Katelyn Thurnall and Ashley Newman also helped York advance.
