Hinsdale receives award for Woodlands Phase 1 project

HINSDALE – The Suburban Branch and Chicago Metro Chapter of the American Public Works Association (APWA) has awarded the 2014 Sustainability Practices Award to the village of Hinsdale and HR Green for the The Woodlands - Green Initiative Infrastructure Improvements - Phase I project.

The project also received the American Council of Engineering Companies(ACEC) Illinois Special Achievement Award.

HR Green was retained by the Village of Hinsdale for this project, which consisted of the green initiatives, concepts and designs of 28 rain gardens, 17 bio-swales and about 29,000 cubic feet of underground storm water storage with sub-surface infiltration, according to a news release from HR Green.

Environmental benefits included efficient management of storm water runoff, reduction in storm water pollutants, and an increased amount of storm water infiltration and groundwater recharge, according to the release.
