Brookfield resident Joe Radford sent in this stunning shot of a 36-inch northern pike he caught while ice fishing at Montrose Harbor in Chicago Feb. 15. The fish was later released back into the icy Lake Michigan waters.
"This has been an incredible year for ice fishing, like I have never seen before," Radford said in an email. "By the time the ice finally thaws we will have had at least three straight months of ice fishing, which is the most I have ever experienced."
According to Radford, the ice at the Chciago harbors is at least 22 to 24 inches thick. Radford's pike was caught using a tip-up and minnow and said using perch has also been working well downtown.
"Montrose is one of my favorite spots and I [am] looking forward to open water," Radford said.
