DOWNERS GROVE – The Downers Grove Junior Woman’s Club is currently accepting applications for four senior achievement scholarships.

Each year the DGJWC awards four $500 scholarships to outstanding high school seniors in Downers Grove.

The Downers Grove Junior Woman’s Club has partnered with three corporate sponsors this year: Baird & Warner Real Estate in Downers Grove, Momkus McCluskey Attorneys at Law in Lisle and ValueKnowledge in Chicago.

Each sponsor has matched a $500 donation, allowing the Downers Grove Junior Woman’s Club to offer three $1,000 scholarships as well as one $500 scholarship.

“College and universities have become so expensive that the extra money will help each student fulfill his or her financial obligations," Downers Grove Junior Woman’s Club President Joanne Vought said.

To be eligible for The Downers Grove Junior Woman’s Club High School Senior Achievement Scholarships, students must, at the time of application, be a resident of Downers Grove or live within the boundaries of District 99, attend any accredited high school and rank in the top 25 percent of the senior class.

Scholarship winners will be selected based on overall academic excellence coupled with leadership qualities and theirinvolvement outside the classroom. Outside activities may include extra-curricular activities, community service and special projects, recreational activities, hobbies and work experience.

Downers Grove high school seniors who would like to apply for one of the scholarships must complete the application on the Downers Grove Junior Woman’s Club website,, under awards and scholarships.

Applications are also available at the North and South high schools’ guidance offices. Transcripts and two letters of recommendation are required to submit the application.

Applications must be postmarked by April 8. All scholarships are paid directly to the learning institution designated on final acceptance paperwork.

Winners will be invited to accept their scholarships at the Downers Grove Junior Woman’s Club scholarship award ceremony on April 22 at Emmett’s Ale House in downtown Downers Grove.
