Prep roundup: North's Wahrman, Slater headed headed to state gymnastics

Allison Wahrman and Anna Slater are representing the Glenbard North at this weekend’s IHSA gymnastics state meet.

Wahrman qualified in the all-around competition after finishing second at the Wheaton Warrenville South sectional, and also earned a state berth on the uneven bars after placing first. She then received an at-large berth on the vault.

Slater will compete on the floor exercise after tying for fifth at the sectional.

The state meet takes place today and tomorrow at Palatine High School.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Glenbard North

The Panthers notched a playoff victory on Tuesday, defeating DuPage Valley Conference foe Lake Park 39-36 in a Class 4A York regional quarterfinal.

Jennifer Deegan scored 21 points and Sarah Petzold also checked into double figures with 10 points.

Glenbard North had closed out the regular season with a 59-39 loss to Wheaton North on Feb. 13. Jennifer Deegan and Caitlyn Deegan scored eight points apiece.

West Chicago

The Wildcats saw their season come to an end Monday in a 31-25 loss to Downers Grove South in a Class 4A Wheaton North regional quarterfinal. Shelly Molskow’s eight points topped the squad while Madeline Earls scored six.

West Chicago fell 48-40 to Larkin on Feb. 13 despite 19 points from Mae Elizabeth Gimre and 11 points from Molskow.

BOYS BASKETBALL

West Chicago

Behind 31 points from John Konchar, 19 from Mikey Bibbs and 10 from Ryan Orr, the Wildcats defeated Glenbard South 71-67 in a nonconference game Tuesday on senior night. A 12-0 run in the third quarter gave West Chicago the lead for good as it improved to 14-10 overall.

The Wildcats, who took a break from game action last weekend, had previously dropped a 71-65 decision to Kaneland on Feb. 11. Konchar finished with 25 points and Mitch Henke added 15 points.
