Oak Brook Park District gears up for 2014 race season

OAK BROOK – The Oak Brook Park District is offering three athletic opportunities that can accommodate people of all ages and fitness levels coming up this spring and summer, according to a news release from the Oak Brook Park District. For more information, visit

1. Indoor Sprint Triathlon:Time: 7 a.m. (first wave)Date: March 2Place: Family Recreation Center, 1450 Forest Gate Road, Oak Brook

The Oak Brook Park District Indoor Sprint Triathlon is a 40-minute, timed event where participants record the distance they can cover during a 10-minute swim, 15-minute stationery bike and 15-minute treadmill session. Cost is $30 for residents and $40 for nonresidents.

2. The Pink 5KTime: 8 a.m. (race start); 6 a.m. (check-in)Date: May 10Place: Family Recreation Center

Participants can help fight breast cancer in stride at the Oak Brook Park District’s fourth annual Pink 5K Run/Walk. Proceeds from registration fees will help the park district reach its $10,000 donation goal to benefit Open Arms Breast Cancer Outreach Fund, Hinsdale Hospital Foundation.

3. Cori’s Triathlon (for kids ages 6-14)Time: 8 a.m.Date: June 7Place: Family Recreation Center

The fifth annual Cori’s Triathlon sponsored by the Cori Sikich Foundation promotes exercise in a "fun and energetic way." Kids will participate in the three traditional triathlon events: swimming, biking and running. Fees are $30 before May 9 and $45 after 5 p.m. May 9. Registration deadline is May 30.
