Lombard Fire Department urges community to keep hydrants clear

Published: Wednesday, Feb. 12, 2014 1:54 p.m. CDT

LOMBARD – The Lombard Fire Department is asking residents and business owners to "adopt" a fire hydrant close to their building.

The intent is to keep the area around the hydrant clear of snow. There are roughly 2,800 fire hydrants in the village, and precious time could be lost if first responders are unable to locate a hydrant.

Keeping a 3-foot area around the hydrant clear allows fire crews enough room to connect their hoses when battling a fire.
