DOWNERS GROVE – The Downers Grove Junior Woman's Club invites junior high students to submit original works of art for the upcoming art contest.

The art contest is open to seventh- and eighth-grade students who attend school in District 58 and District 66 or other school within the village of Downers Grove. Winning artwork will be featured at the Community Bank of Downers Grove.

Any individual artwork such as pencil, ink, painting, or sculpture may be submitted and need not be a special piece created for the contest, according to a press release.

Art contest entries are due the morning of March 4 and will be picked up at student’s respective school.

Contest rules and required entry forms are posted on the Downers Grove Junior Woman’s Club websit, www.dgjwc.org.

“Part of the Junior Woman’s Club’s mission to support educational as well as personal growth in the community and we are pleased to participate once again in this student art contest,” said club president Joanne Vought. “We are looking forward to seeing the innovative art designs from these aspiring young artists.”

The Downers Grove Junior Woman’s Club Education committee will judge all contest entries to determine the best in show, first place, second place, and three honorable mentions.

Awards will be presented by the Downers Grove Junior Woman’s Club at the Downers Grove Park District Recreation Center at 7:30 p.m. March 25.

Winners will be acknowledged at the Downers Grove Junior Woman’s Club Meeting.

Art work will be judged on creativity and originality appearance, quality of artistic composition and overall design, and overall impression of the art.

Awards include:

• Best in Show: $75 cash prize

• First Place for seventh and eighth grade: $50 cash prize

• Second Place for seventh and eighth grade: $25 cash prize

• Three Honorable Mentions: $10 cash prize

• All students who participate in the contest will receive a certificate of appreciation
