Downers Grove man shot and killed on Chicago's west side

DOWNERS GROVE – A 44-year-old Downers Grove man was found shot to death in the West Garfield Park neighborhood of Chicago early Sunday, police said.

Police responded to a call for shots fired at 5:10 a.m. Sunday in the 4500 block of West Monroe Street and found John Serpe, 44, of the 2900 block of Maple Avenue, Downers Grove, unresponsive in the vehicle.

He had a gunshot wound to the left side of his chest and was pronounced dead at the scene, according to Chicago Police News Affairs Officer Janel Sedevic.

As of Monday, there were no suspects in custody and detectives were investigating, she said.
