The Inaugural Food Wars Challenge For Charity at St. Pius X Parish School in Lombard raised more than $10,000 that will be donated to various charities, according to organizers of the event.

The student-organized food competition, inspired by reality shows like Donald Trump’s “Celebrity Apprentice,” was held Jan. 31 and pitted 18 teams of students and recent graduates against each other in a race to raise the most money for their chosen charity.

The winning team, “Bake Upon a Star,” raised $1,631 for their charity, Make-A-Wish-Foundation. In addition to their total, they received 50 percent of all other team proceeds, bringing their total donation to $5,802.50.

The remaining 50 percent of team profits was donated to each team’s charity.
