LEMONT – No guns will be allowed on school grounds, even if concealed carry permits are issued, but school districts still have a decision to make in regards to parking lots, according to District 113A Assistant Superintendent Mary Gricus.

Gricus said the district has two options.

One is to allow permitted gun owners in parking lots to lock their loaded gun in a glove compartment or box or unload the gun and put it in the trunk.

The other option is to prohibit guns in parking lots.

None of the board members liked the idea of having guns on school property, but said a strict prohibition of guns in parking lots will be hard to enforce.

Gricus said that, regardless where it is, staff have been instructed to call the police if they see a gun.
