The basketball postseason is just around the corner. First up are Class 1A and 2A girls regionals, which began with quarterfinals on Monday and continue with semifinals on Tuesday and Wednesday, when IC will start its postseason push.

IC Catholic

Class: 2A

Regional: IC Catholic

Sectional: Marine Math and Science Academy

Seed: No. 1

First game: Wednesday 6 p.m. vs. No. 4 Walther Christian

Outlook: The Knights currently sport a 19-6 record and bring a 10-game winning streak into tonight’s regular season finale against Marian Central, a team that beat them earlier in the season.

Thanks to their hot run, IC earned the top seed in its own Class 2A regional. The Knights open against Walther Christian, which IC defeated 47-28 on Feb. 3. Westminster Christian is the No. 2 seed in the regional.

IC’s success has come largely due to the team’s balance. Grace Vitek is averaging 10 points, but she is the only team’s double figure scorer.

Rory Manion (8.5 points and 5.6 rebounds per game) is the team’s top forward. Abby Radoha (7.8 points per game), Erin Maloney (7.4 points, 3.0 rebounds, 2.0 assists) and Chiara Gaudio (6.2 points) have also been major contributors.
