The weather has been an incredible challenge this winter, both in terms of snowfall and temperature.

So I want to give a big thank you to our Public Works Department. Much of the work they do is behind the scenes, but this year with so much snow, their commitment to excellent service is quite evident.

I am amazed by how many people go out of their way to let us know how wonderful our snow removal operation is in Westmont. As mayor, I am proud to be part of this excellent reputation.

Congratulations, Public Works!

Coffee with the Mayor

We’re taking a break from our coffee events until the weather warms up a bit, but I want to thank Jimmy’s Island Grille on Pasquinelli Drive and Dunkin’ Donuts on 63rd Street for hosting our most recent events. Look for our next event to take place in April.

Community events

I want to thank all of our community organizations and volunteers for their dedication to planning our wonderful community events. Look for more information soon regarding all of our great events: the Red-White & BBQ Festival, the Race To The Flag 5K, the Westmont Street Fair including Cruisin’ Nights and the Westmont Market, the 4th of July Celebration at Ty Warner Park, and the Taste of Westmont. Also, the U.S. Olympic Luge Team is planning to come to Westmont this May. It’s going to be an exciting year!

Environmental Improvement Commission

I am proud to announce that our new Environmental Improvement Commission has been officially confirmed. The group will meet six times a year to discuss “green” initiatives and how Westmont can make a positive impact on our environment. If you have ideas for topics to discuss or issues to address, please let us know.

Together, we can accomplish great things

The final sentence of the Westmont First mission statement reads: Together, we can accomplish great things. I invite all of our citizens to step forward and be part of the team. The investment you make will be the value you receive. As always, please contact me at rgunter@westmont.il.gov or 630-981-6201. I look forward to discussing your ideas regarding how we can continue to make Westmont a great place to live, work, raise a family, go out to eat, buy a car and play.
