Alleged Gang member from Berwyn faces felony weapons charges

BERWYN – A Berwyn man was charged with two felony weapons charges following a traffic stop by a West Suburban Drug and Gang Enforcement Task Force (WEDGE) team Jan. 30.

According to police, Shannon. L. Jefferson, 40, of the 2100 block of South Harlem Avenue, was stopped in the 700 block of South Harlem Avenue in Oak Park while he was driving a rental vehicle that had been rented to someone else.

Jefferson, who was seen committing various traffic violations prior to being stopped, also had no valid driver’s license and was found in possession of a loaded handgun, police said.

A registered Gangster Disciple street gang member, Jefferson has served time in prison for various felony convictions.

Jefferson was charged with a Class X felony charge of armed habitual criminal and a Class 3 felony of unlawful use of a weapon by a felon.

Jefferson appeared at a bond hearing Jan. 30 at the Maybrook Courthouse in Maywood. He will appear on Feb. 6 for a preliminary hearing.
