LA GRANGE – The Legacy Guild, a La Grange-based nonprofit, announced it is accepting scholarship applications from area students who have lost a parent.

Formed in 2012, the Legacy Guild was started by a group of men from La Grange and area communities who were drawn together following a series of sudden and unexpected deaths of their friends and neighbors. The Legacy Guild formed as a way for them to offer each other support. The group now meets regularly to talk about issues surrounding being a father, husband, neighbor and friend.

Eligible students should submit their application online at www.thelegacyguild.com by March 20. Both high school and college-aged applicants are eligible if they live in Lyons Township High School District 204 and have a parent who died while they were living in the area. The awards will be announced in May, according to a news release.

Last year, the group gave 12 area students each $1,750 for the school year. According to La Grange resident and founding member Tom Cushing, the goal is to continue to fund the education of these student while also offering additional scholarships.

More information about becoming a member and about the scholarship process can be found at www.thelegacyguild.com.
