The dominant run of the LT girls gymnastics teams this season continued with a 150.15 score to win the West Suburban Silver meet on Saturday.
The Lions occupied the top three all-around finishes. Kelsy Kurfirst was first (38.075) followed by Katie Carling (37.825) and Michelle Cozza (37.625). Carling was first on the balance beam and Kurfirst won the other three events. LT had the top two finishers and four of the top five in each event. Mackenzie Stotz, Olivia McGann and Kelly Ryser each placed in the top five of one event.
The Roadrunners spoiled Carmel’s senior night with a 56-47 win in Mundelein on Friday. Michael Brooks’ career-high 21 points led Nazareth to its second East Suburban Catholic Conference win.
The Friars beat St. Laurence 68-60 in a conference game Friday.
Glynn Watson’s 22 points weren’t enough for St. Joseph’s boys basketball team in a 65-58 loss to Mt. Carmel on Friday. The defeat was first conference loss of the season for the Chargers.
The Panthers lost two West Suburban Silver games over the weekend. West pushed Silver leader York to the limit, but lost 51-49. The next night Downers Grove North beat the Panthers 43-37.
The Bulldogs added two Metro Suburban Conference wins to their total last week. Samantha Bloom led RB with 22 points against Elmwood Park in a 74-35 win on Jan. 29. The following day, Janae Dabney scored a season-high 23 points to help RB beat Illiana Christian, 68-48.
Jules Raimondi scored 19 points in a 56-39 win over Queen of Peace on Friday. The day before, Nazareth defeated Aurora Central Catholic 54-47.
The Panthers escaped Elmhurst with a 49-47 win over York on Friday, but lost their first West Suburban Silver game of the season to Downers Grove North on Saturday in a 51-35 contest. The win over York was bittersweet: leading scorer Mikaela Boyd went down with an injury. North’s win meant both teams entered Tuesday’s games with one loss each in the conference.
Lyons Township/Riverside Brookfield
Two neighboring schools closed out the regular season with dual meet. The Lions beat the Bulldogs 68-3 on Friday.
The Bulldogs were fourth in the Independent Conference meet on Saturday with a score of 120.95.
The Mustangs headed to Leyden for the West Suburban Gold meet and placed fifth. Morton scored 104.725 points.
The Lions placed 21st at state in Friday’s preliminaries. LT averaged 198.4 pins per game. Individually, senior Mike Kicmal was 12th overall by averaging 222.6 pins per game over 12 games.
The Bulldog cheerleading squad hosted the sectional meet on Sunday and took advantage by advancing to state. RB was fourth in the medium team class and will compete in the state competition at U.S Cellular Coliseum in Bloomington this weekend.
