Police reports: Berwyn and Cicero for Feb. 5

BERWYN

Borrowed car stolen while driver inside gas station

A car was reported stolen from a gas station as the driver of the car was inside making a purchase at 3:45 p.m. Jan. 30.

The driver had gone into the Mobil gas station, 6705 W. Cermak Road, leaving the vehicle, owned by his mother, running outside. A woman jumped into the vehicle and drove off at a high speed.

DUI

• Alfonso Herrera, 39, of the 2000 block of North Laramie Avenue, Chicago, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol following a traffic stop at 1 a.m. Jan. 30 at Harlem Avenue and 26th Street. Herrera blew his horn for about 10 seconds while passing a squad car on the right side of the road at a high speed then veered into the left lane in front of the squad car without signaling. Police noticed a strong smell of alcohol on Herrera’s breath during questioning and found an open bottle of beer in the vehicle. He also was issued five other citations.

• Martin Vargas, 21, of the 1800 block of South 55th Court, Cicero, was charged with DUI of alcohol after being stopped for driving without his headlights on and speeding at 4 a.m. Jan. 27 at Home Avenue and Roosevelt Road. Police smelled a strong odor on Vargas’ breath. He failed field sobriety tests and refused a Breathalyzer test. He also was charged with not having a valid driver’s license, speeding and driving without lights.

• Ashley R. Okerman, 28, of the 900 block of North Damen Avenue, Chicago, was charged with DUI of alcohol following a traffic stop for speeding at 1 a.m. Jan. 24 at Clarence Avenue and 16th Street.

Burglary and theft reports

• A car stereo was reported stolen Jan. 30 from a vehicle in the 3200 block of South Scoville Avenue. There were no signs of forced entry, but the car’s owner said the door locks have not been working properly since the theft.

• A catalytic converter was reported stolen from a vehicle Jan. 29 in the 3600 block of South Harvey Avenue.

• A catalytic converter was reported stolen from a vehicle Jan. 29 in the 3700 block of South Highland Avenue.

• A catalytic converter was reported stolen from a vehicle Jan. 28 in the 1800 block of South Kenilworth Avenue.

• A catalytic converter was reported stolen from a vehicle Jan. 28 in the 3300 block of South Highland Avenue.

• A catalytic converter was reported stolen from a vehicle Jan. 25 in the 1600 block of South Clinton Avenue.

• A window air conditioner, an entertainment system, aluminum ladder and 50-inch flat screen TV were reported stolen from an apartment Jan. 24 in the 3300 block of South Kenilworth Avenue.

• A catalytic converter was reported stolen from a vehicle Jan. 24 in the 1800 block of South Harvey Avenue.

CICERO

Two brandishing guns steal cash, coat and car

Two men were robbed at gunpoint of cash, clothing and a vehicle Jan. 27 in the 2100 block of South Cicero Avenue.

The two victims were approached by a black, four-door vehicle containing four subjects. Two of the subjects got out and approached the victims as they uttered gang slogans. One of the victims was robbed of $280, a state ID and a jacket while the other victim was robbed of his keys. Two of the suspects then left in the victim’s vehicle.

The first victim did not report the crime for 45 minutes, police said.

Burglary and theft reports

• An Apple laptop, iPad, Nikon camera, Chanel sunglasses and Burberry scarf were reported stolen from a vehicle in the 3000 block of South 48th Court Jan. 12.

• A number of truck tires were reported stolen from semi trailers at a lot in the 3400 block of South Cicero Avenue Jan. 24.

• A catalytic converter was reported stolen from a vehicle in the 1300 block of South 48th Court Jan. 29.

• A car jack, battery, two cameras, DVD player, Coach purse and a JVC radio were reported stolen from a vehicle in the 5000 block of West 18th Street Jan. 26. Entry was gained by forcing a door lock.

• A brown purse containing credit cards, check book and social security cards was reported stolen from a vehicle in the 1200 block of South 49th Court Jan. 27. Entry was gained by breaking the front passenger’s window.

• A black iPod Touch was reported stolen from a vehicle in the 2100 block of South 47th Court Jan. 27. Entry was gained by breaking a passenger window with a large piece of concrete.

• A stereo was reportred stolen from a vehicle in the 3100 block of South Laramie Avenue Jan. 27. Entry was gained by breaking a passenger window.

• A red, 2002 Chevrolet Trailblazer left running and unattended was reported stolen from the 2800 block of South 49th Avenue Jan. 27.

• A red, 1998 Ford Explorer left running and unattended was reported stolen from the 4900 block of West 28th Street Jan. 27.

• A white, 2012 Chevrolet Malibu was reported stolen from the 5500 block of West 32nd Street Jan. 25.

• A white, 2007 Pontiac Vibe left running and unattended was reported stolen from the 1900 block of South 48th Court Jan. 25.

• A blue, 2006 Dodge van was reported stolen from the 1900 block of South 57th Avenue Jan. 24.

• A 1999 KIA SUV left running and unattended was reported stolen from the 1500 block of South 49th Avenue Jan. 26

• A brown, 1990 Toyota Corolla was reported stolen from the 5000 block of East 30th Street Jan. 26.
