ROMEOVILLE — Eight classrooms in the south wing of Irene King Elementary School in Romeoville suffered water damage Thursday when a pipe in the corner of one of the classrooms burst overnight.

The damage was discovered by a guest teacher when she arrived about 7 a.m. Thurday, according to a news release from the Valley View School District 365U. Maintenance staff stopped the leak prior to students arriving, but not before the water damaged carpets, cabinets, books, and papers in eight kindergarten and first-grade classrooms, according to the news release.

Those classrooms will be temporarily relocated to the library, art room, computer lab, gym and an unused fifth-grade room. The goal is to have them back in their classrooms by Monday, according to the district.
