Barrington resident Rem Stokes wrote a book called "Cultivating Generosity: Giving What's Right, Not What's Left." Stokes will be speaking at The Garlands Feb. 10.

BARRINGTON – Local author and Garlands resident Rem Stokes will appear for a free book signing and discussion at 11:30 a.m. Monday, Feb. 10 at the Garlands Performing Arts Center, 1000 Garlands Lane.

In his new book, "Cultivating Generosity: Giving What's Right, Not What's Left," Stokes discusses his 12-step exercises and rationale for non-profit organizations to stimulate giving by moving their constituents toward self esteem, rather than self interest.

"I believe that the value of money beyond personal sufficiency is to find a cause worth supporting," Stokes said.

Stokes has spent his lifetime working as a consultant for non-profit organizations. The Garlands is a resort-like continuing care retirement community for people age 55 and older. Call 847-304-1996 or visit www.thegarlands.com for information.
