Prep roundup: Comeback bid comes up just short for North girls
Glenbard North’s girls basketball team nearly overcame an eight-point fourth quarter deficit Saturday before falling 34-33 to Lake Park. Jennifer Deegan scored 13 points and Caitlyn Deegan added nine.
The Wildcats lost 44-28 to Metea Valley on Saturday despite eight points from Mae Elizabeth Gimre.
Shelly Molskow and Gimre each had seven points Jan. 23 in a 64-33 loss to Neuqua Valley.
The Wildcats lost 67-53 to Neuqua Valley on Jan. 24 in Upstate Eight Conference action. John Konchar had 26 points in the defeat.
West Chicago was coming off a 55-51 win against Bartlett on Jan. 21 as Konchar scored 25 points and Mikey Bibbs contributed 10.
The Panthers advanced to the state meet after coming in as the runner-up in a Class 3A sectional Saturday at Glenbrook South. Glenbard North posted a score of 91.0, finishing just behind champion Lake Park (91.10).
The state competition is scheduled Friday and Saturday at U.S. Cellular Coliseum in Bloomington.
The Wildcats finished 10th at the Upstate Eight Conference tournament last weekend.
Emmanuel Garcia was second at 106 pounds. Michael Otzwirk placed fifth at 152, John Garcia finished sixth at 195 and Adrian Smiley came in seventh at 160.
The Panthers defeated Glenbard East 129.95-128.95 in a DuPage Valley Conference dual meet on Jan. 23.
Shayna Bott posted an all-around score of 34.15, which included an 8.8 on the floor and an 8.7 on the beam. Amanda Arendt had a total of 31.50 in the all-around, with a high score of 8.55 on the floor.
Anna Slater added a 9.2 on the floor exercise and a 9.0 on the balance beam.
