CICERO – Cicero police and the Cook County State's Attorney's Office announced charges were filed Monday against a Cicero man for a weekend shooting that resulted in the death of another Cicero resident.

Carl Shampine, 49, of Cicero, was charged with two counts of first degree murder for the shooting death of Santiago Salgado, 38, of  the 5200 block of West 31st Street in Cicero.

According to police, Shampine was drinking with friends in a home at 5221 W. 30th Street at about 3:30 p.m. on Sunday when Salgado arrived. Police said the two got into a fight at the home and Shampine allegedly pulled out a handgun and shot Salgado once in the chest, killing him.

Police said they located Shampine as he was entering his home and took him into custody after a brief struggle. According to police, Shampine was still in possession of the murder weapon.

Shampine is scheduled to appear in bond court on Tuesday in Maywood.
