The Glenbard West girls gymnastics team finished in third place at Saturday’s York Invitational with a score of 138.15.
Individually, Amber Broucek came in as the runner-up in the all-around competition with her total of 36.550.
She was second on both the uneven bars (9.275) and floor exercise (9.45), fifth on the balance beam (9.10) and 11th on the vault (8.725).
Sarah DeStefano placed seventh on the balance beam (8.90) and Maggie Phillips was 11th on the uneven bars (8.550).
With Kilian Brown leading the way with 21 points, the Spartans knocked off Walther Christian 66-41 on Jan. 22. Adam Hart added 12 points.
On Friday, St. Francis lost 59-53 to Marmion despite 22 points from Zach Prociuk. Hart added 10 points.
The Hilltoppers dropped a 57-34 decision Saturday to St. Ignatius. Marisa Vivoda scored eight points and Emma Kiel, Grey Hayes and Kassie Buchholtz each had six points.
The Spartans lost Saturday 48-35 to Wheaton Academy. Regan Kaspark and Reagan Sproat had eight points apiece and Sloane Baumgartner totaled seven.
Two days earlier, St. Francis fell 72-43 to Glenbard South. Sproat had 16 points and Baumgartner also checked into double figures with 10.
Competing at the Bloom quad Saturday, the Hilltoppers went 3-0, defeating Leyden (51-9), Rich East (52-12) and Bloom (52-24).
Individuals who went 3-0 were Tom Berland (113 pounds), Adam Samuta (120), Paul Selman (132), Pernevlon Sheppard (138), Andrew Posegay (145), Collin Knowlton (170), Nik Hollensbe (182) and Jordan Hassan (220).
A day earlier, Glenbard West defeated Hinsdale Central 48-25 in a West Suburban Silver dual meet behind wins from Charles Faber (106), Samuta, Eric Johnson (126), Selman, Sheppard, Alex Morreale (160), Knowlton, Hollensbe and Nate Orrison (195).
The Hilltoppers qualified for this weekend’s state meet after placing second in Class 3A at Saturday’s Glenbrook South sectional. The squad posted a score of 89.43 and will perform at the state competition taking place at U.S. Cellular Coliseum in Bloomington on Friday and Saturday.
The Spartans advanced to this weekend’s state meet after coming in fourth at the Class 1A Huntley sectional Saturday. The team compiled a score of 83.53.
