Prep roundup: Warriors win twice over weekend
Wheaton Academy’s boys basketball team closed out a successful weekend by defeating Marmion 66-62 Saturday behind 24 points, 12 rebounds and four blocks from Gordon Behr. Josh Ruggles finished with 13 points.
A night earlier, the Warriors beat Aurora Christian 76-54. Behr contributed 17 points and Ruggles knocked down four 3-pointers on his way to 16 points.
Despite 21 points from Andrew Slivinski, the Falcons lost 70-52 to Glenbard North in DVC action Friday. Nathan Houlihan added 12 points.
With Kilian Brown leading the way with 21 points, the Spartans knocked off Walther Christian 66-41 Jan. 22. Adam Hart added 12 points.
On Friday, St. Francis lost 59-53 to Marmion despite 22 points from Zach Prociuk. Hart added 10 points.
The Wildcats lost 67-53 to Neuqua Valley Friday in Upstate Eight conference action. John Konchar had 26 points in the defeat.
West Chicago was coming off a 55-51 win over Bartlett in which Konchar scored 25 points and Mikey Bibbs scored 10.
The Warriors knocked off St. Francis 48-35 on Saturday. Jamie Netzley had 16 points and six rebounds and Molly Thorson added 14 points and seven rebounds.
On Jan. 21, Wheaton Academy beat Guerin 46-32. Alexandria Johnston (eight points), Abby Olson (seven) and Christina Garrison (six) led the way.
The Spartans lost 48-35 to Wheaton Academy on Saturday. Regan Kaspark and Reagan Sproat had eight points apiece and Sloane Baumgartner had seven.
The Wildcats lost 44-28 to Metea Valley on Saturday despite eight points from Mae Elizabeth Gimre.
The Wheaton Co-op girls gymnastics team clipped Naperville Central 141.05-140.70 in a DuPage Valley Conference dual meet on Jan. 23.
Lenna Klein won the all-around competition with a score of 36.95. She posted a 9.4 on beam, a 9.35 on the floor and a 9.3 on the vault. Audrey Channon had an all-around score of 35.0 with a high of 9.2 on the beam.
The Wildcats finished 10th at the Upstate Eight conference tournament last weekend.
Emmanuel Garcia was second at 106 pounds. Michael Otzwirk placed fifth at 152, John Garcia finished sixth at 195 and Adrian Smiley was seventh at 160.
The Spartans advanced to this weekend’s state meet at the U.S. Cellular Coliseum after coming in fourth at the Class 1A Huntley sectional Saturday. The team compiled a score of 83.53.
