WESTERN SPRINGS – The Western Springs Police Department warned Tuesday that they have received reports of four residential burglaries in the past three weeks in Western Springs.
Police are urging residents to be vigilant for suspicious activity and to contact police to report any suspicious activity in town.
Two of the burglaries were reported in the 4100 block of Ellington Avenue. The others occurred in the Springdale area. All four homes were entered by forced entry of the rear door, and in each case, no residents were present.
All of the burglaries took place between 5 and 7 p.m. Only cash and jewelry were stolen.
Police suggest residents take preventative measures to help keep their homes safe, including developing a relationship with neighbors to watch each others property while they are away. Police also warn that landscaping should not obstruct the view of your property from a neighbor's home.
Unfamiliar people appearing between homes, or knocking on doors then going to to the rear of a home, should immediately be reported by calling 9-1-1.
Police encouraged resident to remember to lock all first floor windows with auxiliary lock mechanisms and to use a bar to tightly fit into the track of sliding windows and doors.
