BROOKFIELD – Show your animal magnetism this Valentine's Day and treat your significant other to an adventurous evening of dining and dancing at Brookfield Zoo on Feb . 14.

The evening's events begin at 6:30 p.m. with cocktails and hors d'oeuvres at the Seven Seas Underwater Viewing Gallery where bottlenose dolphins can be observed. A keeper will be available to answer any questions.

Diners will then board the heated Snowball Express for a short ride to Bocaditos Restaurant, where the zoo's executive chef will have a gourmet meal waiting to be served.

Dinner, which includes wine and champagne and open bar services, is $225 per couple.

Dinner will begin with lobster bisque with shrimp soup and a salad of assorted baby greens served with fresh Bosc pear slices, candied pecans and crumbled bleu cheese drizzled with strawberry vinaigrette.

Lemon sorbet will be served to clear the palate for a lobster tail and petite filet mignon with wild mushroom ragout in a port demi glaze and fresh vegetables.

The chef's Valentine's Day desert follows with chocolate Marjolaine, a composition of chocolate meringue, white chocolate mousse, ganache and chocolate shavings.

For those who want to celebrate earlier or with the entire family, a champagne brunch will be served Feb. 16 at the Discovery Center.

The 11 a.m. brunch features breakfast fare, including Danishes, bagels and muffins served with assorted jams, butter and cream cheese; eggs Benedict with Hollandaise sauce; buttermilk pancakes; and bacon, sausage links and hash browns.

The buffet will include homemade butter nut squash soup; a variety of salads and roast vegetables; chilled peel-and-eat shrimp; smoked salmon; herb-roasted free-range chicken; grilled lamb kabobs; homemade crab cakes with creole sauce, a made-to-order omelet station; round of beef with port wine sauce; and salmon in puff pastry with lingonberry sauce.

The meal concludes with a sweets table that includes a chocolate fountain for dipping strawberries and fresh fruit, assorted pastries and cakes, marshmallow treats and more.

The brunch, which includes admission to the zoo, is $55 per adult and $35 per child ages 3 to 11. Zoo members pay $45 per adult and $35 per child. Children under 2 eat free.
