York wins tourney opener in rout

WHEATON – After losing its first two games of the season within less than two weeks, York has bounced back in a big way.

The Dukes picked up their third straight win Saturday afternoon by defeating Oak Lawn 77-35 in the first round of Wheaton Warrenville South's Martin Luther King Jr. Day tournament. York next plays in the semifinal at 11:45 a.m.

York led 28-13 after a quarter and never looked back. 12 different Dukes scored.

Frank Toohey led the Dukes with 21 points. Jayvon Thomas and Charlie Rose each scored 11 and Stanley Roberts added 10 points.

"We came ready to play today," Rose said. "It was a good team effort.

"We're starting to get on a roll these last couple games and hopefully we can build on that and continue in conference."
