A Berwyn man survived a fatal traffic accident Friday in the Texas Panhandle.

A Berwyn man was reported to be in satisfactory condition Saturday in a Texas hospital after a Friday morning traffic accident that killed two other men from Illinois.

According to information from the Texas Department of Public Safety, five men from the Chicago area, including David Rubio, 19, of Berwyn, were traveling in a 2006 Chevrolet Impala that veered into oncoming traffic and was hit by a tractor-trailer.

Two men in the Impala, driver Victor Maldonado, 18, of Chicago, and David Roman, 23, of Mundelein, were killed in the accident on U.S. Highway 54 in Dallam County in the Texas Panhandle.

Rubio and the other two survivors from the Impala, Kyle Thomas, 21, and Seth Amofa, 19, both of Chicago, were taken to Northwest Texas Hospital in Amarillo.

The driver and a passenger of the tractor-trailer were treated and released from a local hospital Friday.
