BERWYN – The Berwyn Public Health District will host its annual Healthy Heart Fair on Feb. 8 at the district’s offices, at6600 26th St.

Berwyn Public Health District staff and medical volunteers will assist medical director Dr. Bradford Wainer by taking blood pressure readings, oximetry and pulse readings, height and weight measurements and body mass index readings.

Screenings for hemoglobin, glucose and lipid levels also will be performed.

The screenings will be available by appointment only, between 8 a.m. and 1 p.m. Screenings are limited to Berwyn residents only, and residents are urged to make appointments as soon as possible.

Board of Health President Elizabeth Pechous said that for many residents, the Health Fair might be the only medical visit they have had in years because they might not be able to afford insurance or are slightly above the income guidelines for a state-sponsored medical card.

Fasting of at least 12 hours is required prior to the scheduled appointment to achieve accurate results. After each person is screened they will have an opportunity to review those results with a medical specialist and receive advice on what they can do to improve their lifestyle.

To schedule an appointment call 708-788-6600.
