GLEN ELLYN – The GardenWorks Project is seeking donations to provide home vegetable gardens to 20 families in need in 2014 in Chicago's west suburbs.

A grassroots volunteer undertaking started in Glen Ellyn, the GardenWorks Project provides community members who would otherwise not be able to grow their own food with vegetable gardens and coaching.

The project works with area nonprofits to identify participants.

The GardenWorks Project needs to raise $4,500 by Jan. 30 to meet its goal. As of Wednesday, the group had raised $2,166 through its Indiegogo page at www.indiegogo.com/projects/the-gardenworks-project-vegetable-gardens-for-families-in-need.

Donors will receive a variety of benefits, as described on the campaign webpage.
