Prep roundup: Dukes drop IC after trailing at half

York’s boys basketball team trailed at halftime, but pulled away in the second half Saturday to beat crosstown foe IC Catholic 70-58. The Knights led 29-28 at intermission.

The day before, York lost to Benet 61-56. The Dukes trailed by 18 at half, but fought back to within one point in the fourth quarter. The Redwings held on in the final seconds. Jack Heinle scored 14 points and Frank Toohey added 10 in the loss.

IC defeated Chicago Christian 61-37 on Friday, turning a nine-point lead entering the fourth quarter into a 26-point victory. Clark Brinkman led the Knights with 11 points. Sophomore Rhashaun Epting had 10 points and eight rebounds. Anthony Taylor had a solid all-around game with seven points, seven assists and six steals.


IC Catholic

The Knights won two road games during the weekend. IC took down Suburban Christian Conference foe Aurora Christian 50-39 on Friday and then defeated Willows Academy 53-38.



The Dukes finished seventh at the Sycamore Invitational. Noah Fleckenstein won the tournament at 195 pounds and has a 25-3 record. Mike Ordonez (132) and Jordan Santiago (160) also made finals, placing second at the tournament.



The Dukes beat Glenbard West 116-67 on Jan. 9. Individual event winners for York were Joe Kesslering (100- and 200-yard freestyles), Alex Tase (100 backstroke), Matt Rodriguez (100 butterfly), Flanagan Waldherr (200 individual medley) and Peter Barobalak (diving).
