Elmhurst College awards four Founders Medals in 2013

ELMHURST – Elmhurst College awarded four recipients with the 2013 Founders Medal.

The Founders Medal recognizes individuals who have dedicated themselves to going further in the college's mission through personal service and philanthropy. Elmhurst College President S. Alan Ray presented the medals to recipients in front of the college's Board of Trustees and college officials during a ceremony before the new year.

Raymond and Sally Allen, of Oak Brook, have supported Elmhurst College in a variety of ways, including mentoring art students, donating numerous art books to the college library, and establishing the Sally and Ray Allen Art Fund to support the Department of Art, according to a college news release.

Denise Jones, a 1990 graduate of Elmhurst College lives in Glen Ellyn. She worked as a staff member and then senior vice president for finance and administration at the college during a 28-year period. Jones received the college's Alumni Merit Award in 2004 and served on numerous committees and panels, mostly in support of women's initiatives and the furthering of science and health initiatives on campus, the release stated.

After graduating from Elmhurst College in 1949 with a major in biology, George Langeler of Oberlin, Ohio taught at Elmhurst for five years. A member of the Elmhurst College Board of Trustees since 1974, Langeler is a recipient of the college’s Alumni Merit Award, has served as class agent, and is a generous supporter of the sciences at Elmhurst, according to the release.
