CICERO – A Cicero family is staying elsewhere these days following a fire that started while they were trying to thaw water pipes at their home in the 5400 block of West 25th Place at 3:38 p.m. Jan. 7.

Town spokesman Ray Hanania said the fire started in a crawl space under the house when someone attempted to warm the pipes up using a blow torch.

While the fire was small in size, the house sustained heavy smoke damage, rendering it uninhabitable, Hanania said.
